This month was spent making BIG banners. One of which won’t be up by the time this email ships. Sorry, you’ll see it Monday! I gave you a sneak peek up there though.

The Branded Babe banner was a great banner to make because it was a painless process to make. I needed that.

Cowpokin’s banner is officially a new FOG Classic. But it might enjoy the shortest time spent as “My Favorite Banner,” because the very next one is so good. Nonetheless, people loved it and I love it.

Remember, its not a competition, just artistry.

FOG S̶k̶i̶n̶Salsacare

I consume s̶k̶i̶n̶ salsa daily … Gross, right?!

If you were talking about the watery, tomato-y, acidic garbage that constitutes ninety-nine percent of the salsas available, that would be correct.

For my money, there are only a handful of good salsas widely available. Let’s talk about ‘em.

FIRST THINGS FIRST!
I put salsa on my eggs primarily, chips secondarily. So, uhhh, keep that in mind.

La Fundidora.

My goat brand. I have been eating it for five years straight and yet to tire of it. There are a handful of flavors (I have yet to try the Luna or Ambar though!).

The Humo is my favorite.
It’s smooth, smoky, almost-meaty. The color is rich and dark. Does it taste leathery in a good way? Yes.

It’s not watery at all. Its spice - mild, mild spice! - lingers and barely builds. I would never call this a bright salsa. If that’s what you’re looking for …

That’s where the Fuego comes in. It’s much lighter. Don’t let the name scare you, it’s warm at best.

This one is more garlicky and red. It has more tomato, so it’s a bit more thin. You can see some flecks of charred stuff in there too.

I drive twenty minutes to Whole Foods to get these two salsas - usually three jars at a time. I have gotten them off Amazon in a pinch.

Ya Oaxaca Arbol salsa actually has some heat. I actually think this salsa is warm, not too hot. But compared to the others, noticeable heat.

Arbol chiles are a little mild, flavor-wise. But their heat is a nice tingle.

It has a deeper flavor than a brighter one. I think this would be a banger on chips, where more salt is in play.

Salsa God is another good brand! generally a bit closer to the widely available stuff. Like, it’s the best brand available at most stores.

The Alabaster DePlume record A Blade Because A Blade is Whole - a jazzy, mild, slightly-weird record that sounds like a old-timey bar in Central America in the 1940’s - is on the list!

The songs, Form a V and Kusushi are great. Give it a spin!

What I got going on …

Nothin!

I’m playing a video game called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and it has taken over a very large part of my mind. Extremely recommended.

Maybe when I finish it, I will write about it here (I used to do that like … and get paid for it way back when in a different life).

Not coincidentally, in some capacity, it will also be on the AOTY list.

I am getting a tattoo. Not from the video game, those two things are unrelated.

Biscuit’s birthday was July 1st.

I am writing the bulk of this July 2nd - so it was yesterday. She’s wonderful and strange.

She often says that “until those in power - who harbor immeasurable greed - are cast out of position, the lower and middle class will never know a moment of peace. Their voices will go unheard, bouncing off the ivory walls like stones. Ignorance divides us from our brothers, used to separate us like a falling axe.”
